Two people were injured when a minivan rear-ended a utility truck on Interstate 24 in southeast Davidson County Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported around 12:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-24 at mile marker 56, just before Briley Parkway and west of Harding Place.

Metro police said the truck hauling shingles unexpectedly stopped on the interstate, resulting in the collision.

Two people were taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Westbound traffic on I-24 was reduced to one lane for more than an hour and traffic was backed up beyond Bell Road, five miles away.

Two of the four westbound lanes had reopened by 2 p.m.

Inbound traffic on Murfreesboro Road was also slow as result.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol estimated the scene would be cleared and all westbound lanes of I-24 reopened until about 3 p.m.
