Charlie Daniels headlined the Scholarships for Heroes concert Tuesday night at David Lipscomb's Allen Arena.
The star-studded event helps raise money for American soldiers to attend college and featured Daniels, Chris Young, Darryl Worley and The Grascals, among others.
Matthew Hull is among the soldiers who have taken advantage of the program.
“Without the Yellow Ribbon Program, without the post 911 G-I Bill, going to school wouldn't have been an option, taking out loans is not something I'd want to do,” he explained.
Daniels told Nashville's News 2 it's veterans like Hull that make performing concerts that benefit the Yellow Ribbon Education program easy.
“This program helps prepare them for the rest of their lives, so I don't think we can ever do enough for our service people,” he said, adding playing before the crowd was a way for him to say thank you.
“That's the people that we are serving tonight, those people that have that will and sense of patriotism. They are very special people,” he said.
Donations collected at the show will be used to help 150 students at Lipscomb University.
