It's a problem that police says affects every taxpayer in the city of Murfreesboro- stolen drain covers.
Murfreesboro police are investigating the thefts of six storm grates last week, from an area that's under development.
Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Department, said, “These are very heavy storm grates, something that would probably take several individuals to do, so we believe that there are witnesses that may have seen someone suspicious with a big truck or a heavy trailer that may have been out late at night trying to steal these storm grates.”
Evans said last month, almost 100 storm grates were stolen from another neighborhood construction project off of Veterans Parkway.
Police say thieves steal the covers and sell them for the scrap metal.
