AAA is again urging New Year's Eve party-goers who've had too much to drink get a free ride home and tow for their vehicle with its annual Tow-to-Go program.

The free program provides a 100% confidential ride and tow home from any Nashville area restaurant or bar.

“It's just for safety, to keep everyone safe and eliminate any car crashes that might be because of drunk driving,” said Deborah Turner with AAA of Middle Tennessee.

Since it began in the late 1990s, Tow-to-Go has safely kept more than 16,000 drunk drivers off the roadways.

“A lot of the tourism around here revolves around the bar scene and I think it's cool that people can get a ride home at the end of the night,” resident Chad Omen told Nashville's News 2.

Flinn Pomorey added, “Nashville has a really high rate for DUIs.   It's better to be safe and have your car there as well so you don't have to come back and pick it up.”

Tow to Go is designed to be a last resort.   How long drivers have to wait for a ride depends on the availability of tow truck drivers.

The number to call is 1-800-AAA-HELP.

The program is available to both AAA auto club members and non-members.
