The new Madison police precinct is scheduled to officially begin operations Sunday at 6:30 a.m.
The Madison precinct is Nashville's seventh and will cover 69 square miles, reducing the current land area of the North precinct by one third.
Officials said the new precinct will be staffed by 105 police personnel and represents the first major expansion of the police department since 2004.
“This is an exciting time for our police department and the neighborhoods served by the Madison and North Precincts,” Chief Steve Anderson said. “Reducing the North Precinct's land area by a third will allow Commander Anthony Carter to work even more closely with community and neighborhood leaders to address crime and quality of life issues.”
The precinct offices will be located in the former Peterbilt administration building located at 430 Myatt Drive until an adjacent permanent precinct building is complete.
