Dozens of volunteers spent time on Monday providing warm meals to those in need who may have gone without food over the holiday weekend.
Loaves and Fishes offered by Catholic Charities, helps feed the homeless and other area residents three days of the week throughout the year, as well as each Christmas.
“We make it a point for the staff here at Loaves and Fishes to come in on Christmas Day, regardless of which day it falls on,” assistant director Jeffrey High said, adding, “On Christmas Eve we served 208 [people] and on Christmas day we served 135. That's a little bit higher than last year and the year before that.”
Around 50 volunteers worked over Christmas weekend to prepare and serve the food to those in need.
Jim Coode runs the kitchen for Loaves and Fishes. He told Nashville's News 2 he enjoys volunteering his time to the cause that helps others.
“I love doing it. You get to meet great people” he said, adding, “Our volunteers are very professional and fun to work with. Most of our guests are a lot of fun to work with.”
Loaves and Fishes have provided meals to those in need for more than 25 years.
