All lanes of Interstate 24 East at mile marker 35 in northwest Davidson County have reopened following a fatal accident.
The fiery accident involving a tractor trailer and an SUV was reported just before 3 p.m. Monday at the exit to Whites Creek Pike, past Joelton.
According to authorities, Scotty Brewer of Benton, Kentucky was traveling eastbound when he lost control of his 2000 Pathfinder and traveled off the roadway before he became stuck in the mud.
The 36-year-old man was able to dislodge the vehicle before he entered the roadway, colliding with the driver of the tractor trailer.
Police told Nashville's News 2 the driver of the tractor trailer attempted to slow down to avoid hitting the vehicle.
Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured in the incident.
Police said there was evidence of alcohol in Brewer's vehicle.
A toxicology test is scheduled to be conducted to determine whether alcohol played a role in the accident.
The interstate reopened just after 8 p.m.
