The annual “Food for Fines” program is scheduled to kick off on Thursday at the La Vergne Public Library.
The program allows library patrons who have overdue library books to make a non-perishable food donation to benefit local families in need.
“Offering the ‘Food for Fines' program during the holidays works well for us because it's when people are really thinking about what they have and are thankful for, and how they can help those around them who may be less fortunate,” Library Director Teresa Wilberscheid said in a release.
Each donated item equals $1 in fines.
Food for Dines continues through December 15.
Last year the program waived $375 in fines.
