For many, Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends and share a meal but in recent years, more and more people are opting to go out for Thanksgiving dinner at one of the growing number of restaurants choosing to open.
Monell's is among them.
“We opened up on Thanksgiving in 1995,” owner Michael King reflected, adding, “It is pretty important to us.”
King has been serving traditional Turkey Day meals for the last 17 years but has noticed more and more restaurants opening their doors on the holiday.
“What is happening, the trend of eating is eating out now, people don't have the time to eat in at their house,” he said.
King said they expect to serve nearly 2,300 lunches and dinners on Thanksgiving Day to diners who enjoy eating a good meal without the clean up.
The down side to eating out on Thanksgiving Day is a complaint King hears a lot.
“The only complaint we have every year is there is no leftovers,” he said with a laugh, adding “We don't allow them to take their turkey home with them.”
