Country superstar Martina McBride's new single is one that millions of women around the world can relate to.
The song, “I'm Gonna Love You Through It” describes what it is like to be diagnosed with breast cancer and have to rely on friends and family members during the fight to survive.
The song was written by Sonya Isaacs and her husband. Sonya's mother Lily was diagnosed with the disease more than 25 years ago.
“We called her on the phone that day and we said, ‘Tell us from the beginning the moment you got the call from the doctor. How you felt [and] how it affected your emotions. [We then] sat down and wrote this song,” Sonya Isaacs said.
Lily Isaacs, of the award winning country and bluegrass gospel group The Isaacs, told Nashville's News 2 she's honored her daughter and son-in-law wrote the song.
“I still cry every time I hear it,” she said, adding, “The support team is what this song celebrates, loving people through the disease, cancer.”
Sonya Isaacs said while she knew the song would resonate with millions of women and their families, she did not expect it to be the most successful song she and her husband have written together.
“I can't tell you how many people it's touching. That's the most amazing thing to me, besides the fact that it's climbing the charts with Martina McBride, which is just a thrill,” she said.
Lily Isaacs is prominently featured, along with other breast cancer survivors, in McBride's music video for the song.
She has been cancer free for 27 years.
