A homicide investigation is underway Friday afternoon following the discovery of a man's body at a home in north Nashville.
A neighbor called police after finding the body of Ed Wisdom, Jr. slumped over on the porch of his home located at 3205 Moorewood Drive at 12:30 p.m.
The 71-year-old retired in February as the Director of Management Information Systems at Tennessee State University.
He had lived at his home on Moorewood Drive, just south of Briley Parkway and east of Brick Church Pike, for 37 years.
Police have classified Wisdom's death as a homicide.
Officers said foul play was not suspected until after the medical examiner found a gunshot wound on Wisdom's body.
He was last seen by his family when he left their Whites Creek home at 9 p.m. Thursday.
Wisdom's neighbor reported hearing gunshots at about 2 a.m. Friday.
That resident then looked outside and saw two people walking from the area of Wisdom's home toward Richmond Hill Drive.
Detectives are asking other residents in that neighborhood to report any suspicious activity, including unexpected visitors, in the early morning hours of Friday.
Anyone with information on the murder is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
