Metro police are investigating a fatal shooting late Thursday night in east Nashville.

Shots were fired shortly before 11 p.m. outside a duplex in the 900 block of Thomas Avenue off Gallatin Pike and north of Trinity Lane.

Police said the victim, identified as 33-year-old Terrance Ross, parked in front of the duplex.

When Ross exited his vehicle, he was approached by a gunman who shot him in the hip area.

A neighbor called 911.

“[My brother and I] were sitting in my house and we heard a gunshot go off.  I went out on my porch and I heard what sounded to be a guy screaming.  I went back in the house and told my brother what was going on and we heard another gunshot,” James Elliott recalled.

Ross was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died Friday morning.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone who has information concerning Ross' homicide is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Citizens can also send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online.
