Bids are underway for a new roundabout that will dramatically change some downtown traffic.
The new roundabout will be located at Eighth Avenue and LaFayette Street
at the endpoint of an extension for Korean Veterans Boulevard. The
roundabout will be only the second in Nashville.
According to officials, the project, 80% funded federally, will help reduce accidents and slow drivers down.
“The communities expressed their support for terminating the project at this location and they also expressed support for a roundabout,” said Public Works Engineering Director Mark Macy.
On Tuesday, Nashville's News 2 spoke with several drivers who said they agree with the idea of a second roundabout.
“The traffic can kind of yield through and keep going instead of a complete stop, if there is not going to be a traffic light, then the roundabout works,” one driver said.
Construction on the roundabout is scheduled to begin by the beginning of next year.
