LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The widow and son of a fallen Columbia Marine will serve as grand marshals of the upcoming Fourth of July parade held in Lewisburg, according to a report in the Columbia Daily Herald.

Andrew Carpenter was serving overseas in Afghanistan when he was shot multiple times in mid-February.

Carpenter was taken off life support after he was declared brain dead.

The 27-year-old's wife, Crissie gave birth to their first child, Landon, just weeks after his death.

Jamie Bone, chairman of the annual parade told the newspaper the community wanted to do something to honor Carpenter's service to the United States.

“We certainly can sympathize with the community's pain as well as the families' pain,” Bone said, adding, “We just wanted to honor their families and Andrew's family by having them as grand marshals to say thank you for their service, their commitment.”

The parade begins at 9 a.m. on July 4 at the Acres Shopping Center.
