LAFOLLETTE, Tenn. (AP) – Fire officials in Campbell County say an early-morning house fire has killed a 44-year-old woman.
Campbell County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy John Finley told The Knoxville News Sentinel the victim was Joyce Powers. She was found dead after fire broke out in a rural home around 1:45 a.m. EDT on Tuesday.
Others escaped the burning home, but Finley declined to identify them, saying an investigation is ongoing.
The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene in the Pioneer community near Stinking Creek.
An autopsy of Powers' body will be performed at the Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville to determine the cause of her death.
