PARIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Clarksville man has been sentenced for killing an elderly Paris couple who had been decorating their Christmas tree just before they were shot.
The Paris Post Intelligencer reports that Edward Michael Taylor received two consecutive life sentences for the murders of 80-year-old Guy Kenneth Walker and 76-year-old Barbara Jean Walker in early December.
A plea agreement allowed the 31-year-old Taylor to avoid trial and the possibility of the death penalty by pleading guilty.
He will serve an additional 25 years for the kidnapping of a neighbor.
The Walkers' daughter, Donna Capps, said at the hearing that her parents had a great religious faith and would have already forgiven Taylor.
She thanked Taylor for his willingness to confess and not subject the family to a long trial.
