NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro police arrested a father and his teenage son in an investigation into a series of vehicle thefts from the side of area interstates and roadways.
Shawn Wayne Preston, 42, and his 17-year-old son were arrested Thursday night after they used a tow truck to steal a police department “bait car” from Briley Parkway near Brick Church Pike.
Auto Theft detectives received a GPS-enabled remote security alarm notifying them that the car had been stolen.
Preston and his son were stopped near by Kentucky State Police near Bowling Green.
While detectives interviewed the suspects, they gave conflicting stories about why they were towing the car.
Preston and the teen are charged in Kentucky with concealing and receiving stolen property, transportation of a firearm while crossing state lines in the commission of interstate theft, use of a commercial motor vehicle to commit a theft, and use of an unlicensed commercial vehicle.
Both are from Caneyville, Kentucky and remained in police custody in Bowling Green Monday.
A warrant has also been issued in Davidson County charging Shawn Preston with theft.
Additional charges were pending.
