CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Hemlock Semiconductor is currently utilizing 1,150 workers to build its new polysilicon plant in Clarksville and officials expect that number to increase.

Officials said Tuesday the construction workforce at the site on Jim Johnson Road off Highway 79 is expected to peak at 1,500 by the middle of next year.

The $1.2 billion facility is scheduled to be finished in 2012 with production expected to start later that year.

Hemlock has also started a training program for production operators, who will represent the largest number of the 500 full-time positions at the Clarksville site.

The first group of production operators began training in mid-November.

While in training, production operators work one week in Clarksville followed by three weeks at the Hemlock Semiconductor site in Michigan, for a total of 30 weeks.
“At the end of thirty weeks of training, these team members will be qualified to operate the plant,” training manager Brian Amick said in a release.
In addition to production operators, available positions include degreed and experienced chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineers; and skilled trades such as instrumentation and pipefitting/welding.

Job openings and qualifications are posted at and will be continually updated as hiring continues into 2012.
