A local real estate developer briefed Metro officials Friday on plans for a redeveloped Bellevue Center Mall.
The developer, GBT Realty Corporation, has proposed building a 39,000-square-foot library facility with street and retail-floor entrances, as well as newly designed community-oriented open spaces and common areas.
“Plans for the redevelopment will include a new public library, demolishing the enclosed mall portion of the property and constructing a streetscape boulevard through the middle of the property,” George Tomlin, president and CEO of GBT, said in a release issued late Friday.
Tomlin added there will be a wide variety of national and specialty retailers and restaurants, things that Bellevue residents “have been asking for.”
The mall is expected to be completed by early 2013, with construction to begin something in the middle of next year.
California-based Foursquare Properties had planned to redevelop the mall, situated on Highway 70S off Interstate 40, in 2007, but the project was put on hold due to the economy.
Since then, the only retailer operating in the 850,000-square-foot property about 20 minutes west of downtown Nashville has been Sears.
Inland Western Retail Real Estate Trust, Inc., purchased the Bellevue Properties, LLC, from Foursquare last year, and selected Brentwood-based GBT as the new developer.
GBT said they expected to be meeting with retailers interested in the project and hoped to announce some of the tenants soon.
