Woman hit by pickup truck, Investigation continues (Image 1)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An investigation is underway after a female pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck on Bell Road Monday night.

Police said the woman, identified as 22-year-old Carrie Holmes, was hit around 7:45 p.m. in the 3500 block of Bell Road near Lincoya Bay Drive and west of Percy Priest Lake.

Metro Police Captain Rich Foley told News 2 the victim was found lying in a ditch.

Witnesses reported Holmes was walking along Bell Road when the truck first hit a mailbox and then her and kept driving.

Holmes was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition midday Tuesday.

Police have not specified what her injuries are but witnesses told News 2 she had a broken leg and was unconscious.
Captain Foley said the woman's sister was driving by on Bell Road and witnessed the accident.

A woman who lives near the crash site was with the sister as other witnesses tried to help.

Hannah Meeks said, “There [were] two people trying to perform CPR on her. They were having some troubles with that… Everybody was trying to kind of pull together. More or less, everybody was just scared for her.”

Tuesday morning, police investigators interviewed the driver of the pickup truck.

He told officers he called police after hearing reports on the news that a woman had been struck in the area where he had been driving.

After the accident, the passenger in the hit and run vehicle returned to the scene and reported that he told the driver to stop but he refused.

The passenger told investigators they both had been drinking prior to the crash.

The investigation continues.
