NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Goodwill's first-ever Wedding Gala, offering designer dresses at bargain prices, attracted hundreds of brides-to-be, their fiances, friends and family early Saturday morning.

Doors didn't opened at 6 a.m., but a line started forming outside the Goodwill on Gallatin Road, near the Rivergate Mall as early as 4:30 a.m.

Customers came from as far away as Missouri to camp out with blankets and chairs, anxious to look at the more than 500 dresses for sale.

Trisha Stock said, “My mom came in from St. Louis. She got in at 2 a.m. this morning. We got up at 4 a.m., and got here at 4:30 a.m. and waited.”

She knows weddings can be pricey, and the dresses can be one of the most costly expenses.

“We had a baby,” Stock said. “She's seven-months-old. We bought a house, so spending a lot of money on a dress didn't fit in the budget, so this actually came at the perfect time.”

Goodwill priced all the wedding gowns under $400.  Bridal party and prom dresses were all sold for $99 or less.

The dresses weren't hand-me-downs either.

“We have several designer gowns.  They came from local bridal stores.  They have been so generous to Goodwill to donate these gowns to us.  Most of them are sample gowns or brand new gowns,” explained Natisha Moultry with Goodwill.

Stock said she tried on about 30 dresses during the three hour event, including a $5,000 silk wedding dress priced at only $399.

“To get that dress for $400,” Moultry said, “that's a steal.  That's a steal.  A lot of the dresses still had original tags, so people walked out happy.”

The Goodwill Wedding Gala ended at 9 a.m.

Stores across the country have held similar events but Saturday was the first time Goodwill held a Wedding Gala in the Nashville area.
