HERMITAGE, Tenn. – Metro police have in custody the suspect in Thursday night's shooting death of 23-year-old James Wade.

Police allege 22-year-old Angel Manuel Rivera shot and killed Wade inside Wade's home on Hermitage Ridge in Hermitage.

According to investigators, Wade was inside his home with three friends when Rivera appeared shortly before 11 p.m., stuck his head in the front door and asked if Wade was there.

Upon seeing Wade, who emerged from another room, Rivera and two unidentified men rushed into the house.

Rivera, who was armed with a pistol, held Wade and his three friends at gunpoint while the accomplices rummaged through the house.

When Wade stood up to confront Rivera, Rivera fired the gun.

Wade was hit in the upper body and died shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

The suspects fled the home immediately following the shooting.

“Several officers from the precinct saturated the area and at this time the suspect is still at large,” Metro Police Department Capt. Harmon Hunsicker told News 2 Friday morning.

Police do not know what the motive was behind the shooting or why the suspects showed up at the house.

Efforts are continuing to identify the two men with Rivera.

Detectives recovered several marijuana plants from the home.

Rivera is being held without bond.
