Condo owner walks News 2 through crime scene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair and his 20-year-old girlfriend were found shot to death Saturday afternoon inside the downtown condominium he co-rented on Second Avenue South.

Tuesday, the owner of that condo walked News 2’s Amy Napier Viteri through the crime scene.

The bodies of McNair and Sahel Kazemi were found in the living room, the first room you enter upon passing through the front door of the condo.

McNair was reportedly on the couch when he was killed, which is located to the left as you enter the room.

On Tuesday it appeared the couch was pushed up against the wall when the crime was committed but had since been pulled forward.

A large pool of blood was located directly under the couch in an area of the carpet which would have been directly in front of the couch in the early morning hours Saturday.

There was also blood on the couch’s middle cushion.

Two sections of the wall, towards either end of the couch, had been cut out, with notes left to indicate a bullet had penetrated the wall in each location.

There was also some blood on the floor behind the couch and next to the wall, as well as evidence that police had been dusting for fingerprints.

Fingerprint dust was apparent on the counters in the kitchen and on the back door leading out to a balcony.

The condo is one of four units in the Cardwell Place Condominiums.

Owner Charlie Cardwell told News 2 he built the condominiums around 10 years ago.

He said McNair and friend Wayne Neely had been leasing the condo for around four years but were rarely there.

Cardwell said it was typically used when McNairy or Neely had friends or family in town.

He told News 2 he had never seen Kazemi at the residence.
