CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Clarksville man is behind bars in Montgomery County, accused of killing his wife after police found her body in the back of an SUV during a routine traffic stop.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper pulled over Khaleefa Lambert, 28, Saturday morning on Interstate 24 after he nearly struck the trooper’s patrol car.
The trooper reported she found Lambert crying with a towel wrapped around his hand.
Upon further investigation, the body of Lambert’s wife, 18-year-old Ashley Barnes-Lambert, was discovered in the back seat of the SUV. She had been stabbed.
Lambert told the officer he didn’t mean to hurt his wife but admitted to an incident involving a knife at the Microtel Inn in Clarksville.
Barnes-Lambert was a Fort Campbell soldier on leave from Afghanistan.
Lambert is charged with first-degree murder and remains in the Montgomery County jail.
