A police chase that began in LaVergne, Rutherford County has ended with a suspect dead, a police officer injured and two separate crash scenes for police to investigate.
The chase began when the motorcyclist whizzed past LaVergne Police Officer Dave Borden on Parthenon Boulevard just after 10 p.m. Thursday.
The chase continued into Davidson County where, a short time later, Borden was involved in a crash with three other vehicles at the corner of Murfreesboro and Hamilton Church roads in Antioch.
Officer Borden was injured and taken to the hospital. He has since been released and is at home recovering from bruises and sprains.
No one else was seriously injured in the crash.
The motorcyclist bypassed the crash and minutes later collided, at a high rate of speed, with a car on Stewarts Ferry Pike near the on-ramp to Interstate 40 in Donelson.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead.
His name has not yet been released.
An investigation is under way.
According to LaVergne Police Department policy, an officer is allowed to make a choice whether or not to cross over county lines during a pursuit.
Officer Borden made the decision to do so.
Even so, LaVergne police are reviewing the incident to make sure he followed guidelines.
